2023 Admissions Trends
With our younger Moon Prep families, we are often asked for updates about how things are trending for our seniors and if we can make any predictions for their child’s graduation year. Unfortunately, the world of college admissions is in constant flux. However, after studying trends and data, Higher Ed Dive has made a few predictions to watch for the coming year, regarding financial aid changes and student loan forgiveness. One of the most interesting updates has been the issues surrounding college rankings this year. Multiple top colleges refused to participate in the U.S. News college rankings, leaving students wondering where to turn for reliable advice on college information to build a balanced college list. Thankfully, the Moon Prep students have their mentors and resources available to them, like our College List Builder, but it will be interesting to watch what the future holds for college rankings.
Interview Invitations
Interview invitation season is not over! Many of our students are still receiving interview invites and waiting to hear from remaining schools for interviews. The good news is that Moon Prep is prepared to help you with every interview step, with our expert medical mentors available to help guide students through interview prep of any format. We offer free resources, like our BS/MD Interview Guide, and have files on past interviews at most direct medical programs to share details with our students.

Student Mental Health = Retention Rates
When considering colleges to add to the college list for juniors, parents and school counselors consider many factors: acceptance rate, student-to-teacher ratio, and campus size. Retention and graduation rates are also data points that are tracked across schools and is a consideration for many parents to determine if students are being supported and feel happy at that school.
Higher Ed Dive recently took a deeper look into how mental health on campus may affect that retention rate across multiple studies. What they found, which may seem obvious at first, is that students with a history of mental health distress have higher college dropout rates across the board, which also reflects retention rates. Colleges are beginning to place a greater emphasis on mental health support on campuses, especially after data like this has been uncovered.
