BS/MD Strategies

No matter how you look at it, college admissions can often boil down to numbers and strategy. This is why a company like Moon Prep, which has been exclusively in the BS/MD game for years, is so valuable; we are able to analyze the data and trends from the past to give our students the best chance for success. In our recent White Coat Club podcast episode, 2023/2024 Admissions Debrief, we break down everything we saw in the previous admissions cycle with you and share our predictions for the upcoming year. This is an episode you can’t afford to miss!

Featured on Forbes, we highlighted Seven BS/MD Program Changes Seen In The 23/2024 Admissions Cycle.

More Aid Please!

The financial aid package sent from your accepted colleges does not always have to be the final offer. It’s an offer that can be negotiated in the right circumstances. But rather than immediately emailing your top schools to ask for more money, do your research to make sure you can maximize your funds. In our latest Forbes article, How To Negotiate More Financial Aid As A College Student, we share our advice on which circumstances put you in a position for negotiation and the right way to ask for more.

Additional Information Section?

Every summer, the seniors at Moon Prep work to complete their Activities List, which is essentially a condensed version of their resume. Here, they list their extracurriculars and achievements and even have a separate section for the awards they’ve earned. But one thing is always the same: they feel like there’s not enough room to fully explain everything they want to say when describing their activities. Immediately, the question becomes, can I use the Additional Information section on the Common App to share more extracurriculars? Our recent White Coat Club podcast episode, The Additional Information Section, answers that exact question!

Casper Exams

Are you gearing up for the Casper exam? This crucial situational judgment test is a key part of the admissions process for many medical schools and BS/MD programs, assessing your ability to handle ethical situations. While some may say you can’t study for it, the pros at Moon Prep know better—preparation is everything.

Our expert counselors specialize in the Casper assessment, providing personalized guidance to help you confidently navigate ethical dilemmas. Learn expert strategies to pass your exams and understand what the test scorers seek in compelling answers. Many students answer too narrowly, but with Moon Prep, you’ll learn to view scenarios from multiple perspectives.

As students continue to build college lists over the summer, we want to share some important college updates.

  • Northeastern will remain test-optional for the foreseeable future.

  • Wichita State University and the Kansas Health Science Center – Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine have announced a 3+4 partnership to address the physician shortage in the state, beginning in the fall of 2025.

  • Marymount Manhattan College, a small liberal arts school, will merge with Northeastern University.

  • Colleges and universities are now using AI to personalize and expand their marketing techniques to students. Find out all the ways AI is being used in admissions.

  • There are record numbers of school counselor shortages in the West and Midwest regions of the US. These high student-to-counselor ratios result in more students falling through the cracks of the higher education pipeline.
