November Deadlines
BS/MD applicants have another substantial deadline this week, November 15. Many schools have this date as their BS/MD deadline, including University of Connecticut, George Washington University, Hofstra University, Stevens Institute of Technology, Purchase College, University of Alabama, and University of Rochester. It is essential to add these schools to your Common App or Coalition App early, before the deadline day, to make sure you do not miss a required essay!
We know firsthand that applying to BS/MD programs can feel like juggling too many dates and details. Download Moon Prep’s BS/MD FAQ guide to make sure you understand the intricate differences between BS/MD application process details from traditional undergraduate programs
Future of Rural Physicians
It’s no secret that there is a significant shortage of physicians in rural areas. This is the reason for multiple BS/MD programs having a rural physician focus, like Mercer University and Nebraska’s Rural Health Opportunities Program. To address the future of this issue, both the University of North Carolina’s School of Medicine and the University of California Davis School of Medicine run programs that focus on creating physicians committed to working in rural and limited access areas.
The American Medical Association recently held an Accelerating Change in Medical Education Consortium meeting to identify essential areas of growth for the medical field. It is crucial for high school and undergraduate students to know where the highest areas of need are for physician shortages, so the field of medicine can identify individuals with these areas of interest early. CASPer Test Reminder
If you applied to Hofstra University’s 4+4 Program this week, this is a reminder to sign up to take the CASPer/Altus exam. This is a situational test designed to test your aptitude as a doctor to ensure that medicine is a good personal fit for your skill set through written and video questions. You have until January to take the CASPer test, but we recommend taking the test in advance and not waiting.

More Direct Medical Programs To Consider
Direct medical programs aren’t just for MDs and DOs. Did you know? There are direct medical programs for PharmD, DDS, and DMD programs too. One example of these programs is Binghamton University. Undergraduates accepted to the Pharmacy Early Acceptance Program (PEAP) are guaranteed a seat in Binghamton’s Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program. Students are given the option to enter the Pharmacy School after two years of undergraduate classes if they choose, earning a PharmD in an additional four years.
