What’s the Best Major to Prepare Me for Medical School?
Most new undergraduate students entering college with the intention of later applying to medical school assume they need to major in Biology to be properly considered “pre-med.” They assume this major will best prepare them for medical school. And they’d be right; except many students apply to medical school from vastly different majors.
To research this idea of the best major for applying to medical schools, the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) tracked more than 21,500 students enrolled in medical school. What they learned was fascinating, like the fact that declaring a major in Biology, the traditional pre-med major, actually doesn’t give you an advantage when applying to medical school at all.
