As Medical School Applications Skyrocket, More Candidates May Turn To The Caribbean
One thing is clear: applications to medical school have skyrocketed.
According to the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC), applications increased 18% over the 2020 cycle. The average growth has been less than 3% per year over the last decade.
The dramatic increase in applications this year is an acceleration of a long-running trend. The number of applicants jumped nearly 60% between 2002 and 2020, while the number of spots available at U.S. medical schools hasn’t kept pace.
In the midst of these increased numbers are new partnerships forming. Anderson College of Health, Business, and Technology in Canada recently announced a direct admissions program partnered with St. George’s University in Grenada, with an automatic $5,000 scholarship.
