Student Activity Spotlight: Common Humanity Collective

By Michaela July 1, 2021 Covid-19 Summer Plans

One question we are always asked by new families and students looking to sign up to work with our Moon Prep counselors, is “what type of passion projects are your students working on?” This can be difficult to answer, because so many of our students have varied interests and a wide variety of passions. But one thing they can all agree on, is caring for others.

Here is a project that one Moon Prep student has been diligently working to bring to fruition. She joined Common Humanity Collective, a volunteer group of UC Berkeley scientists, Bay Area activists, and community members focused on ensuring that critical COVID supplies reach the hands of those in need.

Our student has been personally responsible for assembly and distribution of 10,000 + no sew masks, which are being continuously dispatched to homeless shelters, domestic violence refuges, free clinics, Central Valley farmworkers, Louisiana hurricane victims and the Navajo Nation Native American communities in Arizona and Utah.

This project was featured in the Berkeley News along with UC Berkeley students on December 5th, 2020 for Mask Effort. Our student was also featured in this same Berkeley News article.

She was also chosen as a potential winner in the Invisalign ChangeMakers $5,000 Contest
