Bio:
Sam is a medical student at Duke University School of Medicine and is concurrently pursuing a Master of Engineering in Artificial Intelligence for Product Innovation through Duke’s Pratt School of Engineering. His interdisciplinary training across medicine, engineering, and research gives him a unique perspective on how students can develop their interests into a compelling academic and professional narrative rather than simply assembling a checklist of accomplishments.

Mentorship and academic support have been a consistent part of Sam’s life. Over the years, he has taken on leadership roles in mentorship and academic tutoring organizations, supporting and overseeing students at different stages of their educational journeys. This experience helps him give students practical guidance while keeping their individual goals, circumstances, and strengths at the center of the process.

Throughout his medical training, Sam has also been deeply involved in clinical and translational research, including work in neuroimaging, neuroscience, critical care, and computational approaches to medicine. His experience conducting research, contributing to prospective clinical studies, publishing scientific work, and collaborating with physicians, scientists, and engineers allows him to provide particularly strong guidance to students interested in medicine, research, healthcare technology, and other STEM fields. He enjoys helping students think strategically about research opportunities, clinical experiences, extracurricular activities, and long-term projects that genuinely reflect their interests.

Sam also brings firsthand experience with the medical school admissions process and uses that experience to help aspiring physicians connect their clinical exposure, service, research, leadership, and personal experiences into a convincing and authentic motivation for medicine. His counseling style emphasizes thoughtful planning, honest feedback, patience, and breaking an otherwise stressful process into clear, manageable steps for both students and their families.
