Moon Prep Demystifies The Casper Exam For You
The Casper exam is a situational judgment test (SJT) that assesses students’ aptitude for handling ethical situations. Many medical schools use this entrance exam as a part of the admissions process. While some schools may lead you to believe that it is not the type of exam you can study for, keep in mind, this is also said for the SAT and ACT. Moon Prep believes that preparation is the key to success.
Our expert counselors are experienced with the Casper assessment and are trained in guiding students through critically thinking about ethical dilemmas. We will ensure that your student has a robust understanding of what the test scorers are looking for in compelling answers. Through our extensive work with preparing students for the Casper exam, we have seen a pattern of students answering open-ended questions too narrowly. Moon Prep teaches the students how to consider scenarios from multiple points of view.

How Casper Is Used In Admissions For BS/MD Programs
BS/MD programs are in a unique position, needing to evaluate high school students on their future readiness for medical school. While students may have stellar extracurricular activities and endless volunteer hours, their character must also be considered. Many schools use interviews to assess a potential candidate’s readiness for an academically rigorous program, but the Casper exam is also well positioned to provide schools with similar information. Students will be assessed on their emotional maturity, ethical decision making, and ability to think from another’s perspective.
How Casper Is Used In Admissions For Medical School
As medical schools receive more applications each year, they need a metric to allow stellar students to stand out. While the MCAT and GPA will point to an applicant’s academic prowess, the Casper is used to assess an applicant’s social readiness. Deciding who will become a doctor and ultimately treat patients is no light task, and admissions committees do their best to ensure patient well-being by admitting only those students who show professionalism, a commitment to integrity, and high emotional intelligence. Casper is the most commonly used tool, in addition to interviews, that aid in the selection of the next generation of doctors.
About Situational Judgment Tests (SJT)
Casper is the most popular SJT used by medical schools and BS/MD programs. However, it is not the only one out there. The American Medical Association created its own version, PREview, shortly after the release of Casper. While the two exams have different formats, they were both created to test student’s ethical aptitude.
Slightly different from an SJT, Duet is a value alignment test also offered by Acuity Insights, the parent company of Casper. Instead of evaluating your ability to handle difficult situations, this assessment compares what you value in a program to what a program has to offer, thus allowing schools to select students who are a good fit for their curriculum and culture.
