Bio:
As a medical mentor and essay coach with Moon Prep, Soumya is committed to helping students create polished, meaningful narratives from their experiences while preserving her students’ voices, individuality, and character. She is passionate about offering her students tangible improvements in their essays, genuine feedback in their medical school application list, and intentional advice in their admissions questions. As a first-generation US undergraduate and graduate student, she understands the hesitancies underlying this arduous, novel task, especially without adequate mentorship. As an academic, personal, and professional mentor, Soumya effectively guides her students through the admissions cycle and offers them the utmost support during their most stressful times.

Alongside her mentoring at Moon Prep, Soumya is currently an MS2 at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Having successfully navigated the medical school admissions cycle herself for DO and MD schools, Soumya has personal experience in the entire process, from the initial brainstorming of application essays to interview skills. With over three years of experience in academic tutoring, freelance essay editing, and medical school admissions consulting, Soumya has worked with a wide variety of students and is confident in her ability to tailor her mentorship style to the individualized support her students need.

Prior to medical school, Soumya worked as an Emergency Medical Technician, national crisis text line counselor, and clinical trial coordinator during the pandemic. During her gap year, she worked as a Research Specialist researching the link between sleep alterations and dementia. Soumya is also heavily involved in health disparity initiatives for high schools with low socioeconomic status, global outreach in rural India, and neurocritical care research.
