Direct Medical Programs (BS/MD)

At Moon Prep, our counselors have extensive experience working with students applying to highly competitive direct medical programs. Each year, every single counselor on the team works with direct medical students. We coach talented and exemplary students who are passionate about medicine and help them gain a spot to elite direct medical programs.

This process can be stressful for both parents and students, so Moon Prep is here to serve as your partner. Direct medical students often apply to 20 or more schools, and our counselors keep you on track and ahead of deadlines. We guide you through each step of the process to help make this journey a success.

Experienced Moon Prep counselors help you:

  • Secure internship or volunteer positions with a medical focus
  • Recommend science-based extracurricular activities
  • Seek out research opportunities
  • Publish your research in academic journals, present it at science fairs and conferences

Early Assurance Programs

As medical school becomes increasingly competitive, students try to find alternative ways to get accepted. For students who didn’t apply to BS/MD programs, or failed to get accepted into their top choice program, Early Assurance Programs (EAP) can be the next best option to gain early acceptance into a medical school. Our Early Assurance Program counselors will coach you throughout your college career to build your resume and submit a competitive application.

The requirements for Early Assurance Programs will vary, but typically undergraduate students can be accepted to medical school as early as the end of their second year or the beginning of their third, often before taking the MCAT.

Early acceptance will be determined by how you spend your first few years of college; hitting the ground running is essential. Assurance Admissions Counseling services will help you strategize and build a competitive resume through meaningful extracurricular activities, including clinical learning opportunities and research. As you apply for these programs, after just a couple of years in undergraduate, selecting activities that will help you become a well-rounded candidate is essential.

Moon Prep focuses on strengthening your academic profile to maximize the limited time you have before the Early Assurance Application. By working with us early throughout your college prep, you can increase the odds of acceptance at your top-choice Early Assurance Program.

We can help you:

  • Select your courses throughout college
  • Apply for internship or volunteer positions
  • Seek out research opportunities
  • Strengthen your academic profile
  • Select your best-fit schools
  • Personal statement and supplemental essay guidance
  • Prepare for the interview process

Interview Prep

One of the most important components of any application is the interview. Yet, this area is often the most overlooked. Once an applicant has come this far, it is critical to finish strong and not approach the interview nonchalantly. While interview questions may seem unpredictable, the most common interview questions can be practiced. The more familiar you are with these questions, the more confident you will be during the interview.

Moon Prep’s Interview Prep process involves brainstorming the most commonly asked questions, based on questions we have seen in previous admissions cycles, followed by video-recorded mock interviews and detailed feedback sessions.

 We can help you:

  • Prepare for Traditional Interviews, MMI Interviews, Residency Interviews, and Scholarship Interviews.
  • Familiarize with common interview questions
  • Learn how to construct well-thought-out answers
  • Video-recorded mock interview and feedback session to help perfect your answers

Situational Judgment Tests

Casper, Duet, and PREview are situational judgment tests (SJT) and value assessments that some schools use to evaluate applicants’ ability to handle a tough situation and their values. They are used in numerous direct medical programs, medical schools, dental schools, physician assistant schools, and veterinary schools.

Certain characteristics assessed include:

  • Collaboration
  • Self-awareness
  • Communication
  • Professionalism
  • Problem solving
  • Resilience
  • Motivation
  • Equity
  • Ethics
  • Empathy

During the tests, students are faced with a number of scenarios and asked follow-up questions on how they would respond in ethical dilemmas. Students are only permitted to take these exams one time per year; they only get one shot to ace it and show schools why they have the ethical qualifications to become a physician.

These unique exams require strategies distinct from traditional testing or interviewing. With a combination of text-based scenarios, video-based scenarios, written responses, and recorded video responses, a wide range of communication styles are assessed.

At Moon Prep, our team has experience training students for success on the Casper, Duet, and PREview, no matter what questions they are faced with.

We can help you:

  • Identify which schools require SJTs
  • Get acquainted with the format of the exams
  • Put your best foot forward in both written and oral responses
  • Practice questions until you feel confident on test day

Test Prep

Strong standardized test scores can strengthen a candidate’s application. Scoring in the top percentile on your tests can add another dimension to your application that displays your ability to excel at the next level of education. At Moon Prep, our goal is to provide you with superior one-on-one tutoring; targeting the areas you need to strengthen. We work with you on mastering your weaknesses so you feel confident on test day. Through targeted preparation, expert advice, and consistent progress, we can help you ace your exam and strengthen your overall application.

For our BS/MD applicants, getting a high test score on your SAT or ACT is critical, as most programs have minimum requirements that students must meet to be eligible for consideration. While many BS/MD programs set minimum requirements ranging from 1200-1500 on the SAT and 27-34 on the ACT, the average successful applicant will have much higher stats. Accepted BS/MD students frequently have scores between 1450-1550 on the SAT or 31-35 on the ACT.

Moon Prep Tutors can help you:

  • Create a study plan for your standardized test
  • Advise on the best timeline to maximize your score
  • Stay on track and be consistent with your progress
  • Gain strategies to master your next standardized test
  • Provide one-on-one guidance in test preparation
